Romania has reached the end of the emergency alert mandate. With this event, all Covid measures that were in place during the pandemic, have been completely removed. Romanians rejoiced after a long period of restrictions, having been through five waves of large COVID spreads since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, many Western European countries continue to exercise strict COVID measures.
The reality of this situation is that owing to Romanian law, the emergency state must have an end date. Entering again into another emergency state is a hard political and bureaucratic process. Some Romanians actually consider it unnecessary. As a result, many people still believe the virus isn't as dangerous as it appears, and the majority are of opinion that Romania shouldn't enter another emergency state that could lead to the imposition of more restrictions.
During the pandemic, Covid-related limitations created a situation in which many businesses were unable to adapt to the regulations imposed and, as such, many enterprises had to shut down during this period. The divide between people who were able to adapt and people who weren’t; gave rise to conflicts within the country. Anti-vaxxers, numerous in number, largely dominated Romanian public opinion on the subject.
Apart from internal reasons why Romania is now a country with no restrictions, the region has recorded a rise in foreign tourists during the spring season holidays. Rich in culture and boasting of exceptional night-life experiences, travel agencies and travellers have begun to target Romania as a great destination for tourism.
