It would have been unimaginable without social media. Can you relate to your parents writing letters to their friends, family? The old dial telephones have become a ubiquitous instrument, only used for decorating the interior.

Since, with time, everything seems to be changing. Successful technological advancement over time is from print media to radio and television and now to social media. The media refers to the predominant means of communication, particularly mass communication. This is opposite to the term “old media,” which usually refers to the traditional forms of media. Such as print media which includes newspapers and magazines. The potential of social media is more than conventional media.

Dewey reiterated what philosophers and scholars had noted for centuries: small groups, larger communities, and vast institutions- all the things that make up society- function, concerning how communication flourishes within and between groups. However, it is only possible because of the digital revolution.

Digital transformation has not only influenced business but also made it easily accessible. It has changed the way we communicate. There are 3.2 billion social media users all across the globe as of 2019, according to Oberlo. Besides, there are roughly 4.5 billion internet uses across the world today. These statistics show the dominance of digital media in our daily lives. It created an insight of seriousness and a need to share. For example, the drug story happening in Bollywood. It created a sense of urgency in the youth that all of this is wrong.

Some people are supporting this, and some are not. It allows the opportunity to provide the perspective of faraway places. People post and then come together to know and share information about it.

Essential business strategy: In today’s world, everything is just a click away. It includes buying clothes for buying your groceries. The way it is easily accessed all over the traditional methods. Education too has come forward and increased its interactivity. Social media is a crucial section of digital marketing and helping the business go beyond demographic boundaries.

Instead of stopping over at the clinic, you can simply Skype your doctor. Medications have also become online. Moreover. It is challenging to confirm a doctor’s reliability by the appearance of their profile online. However, if used properly, this can be an advantageous resource for people universally.

Increased civic awareness: Social media has changed and made it more transparent about how we are governed. Many leaders take the support of social media to forward their voice regarding any political as well as any statement. This gives a better understanding of the people.

Disaster management: Social media has become a savior, enabling relief funds, information, and support systems.

Social justice: Social media has brought people face to face with humanitarian issues. Many social organizations work for animal welfare and raise funds through social media to create awareness about the issues. It brings all the people together and fights for the cause.

Social media has given a different genre of communication where the conversations are quick and information readily available. It also plays a crucial role in the employment of loads of people all across the globe.

Social Media Theft

Social Theft

Social media is here to stay with us. With each day passing its roles are getting broader and more vital for us. The way we are using Twitter, Linked In, Instagram, and other social media, has a massive impact on us. With the little do we know and a dose of cautions. However, it seems okay to enjoy a lot of pleasure socially with few risks. But is it okay to do so?

More and more data about each of us is being generated faster and faster from more and more devices, we can’t keep up.

It is a losing game both for an individual and for our legal system. Account hacking and impersonation are famous amongst us. Although they know a lot about it but still get tricked. More, spammers, hackers, and other online criminals are targeting social media channels.

Why do they target social media accounts? Because it is potent to spread viruses, malware, and scams.

People tend to trust the messages they receive from their known. Those links are more likely to get clicked and then infect the computers. Not all social media privacy comes from the people you don’t know but from the people, you know. Online stalking and cyberbullying are very well-known threats.

In a recent incident, a woman broke up with her boyfriend and later find out all her images and messages were out on her Instagram account. He changed the password so that she couldn’t log back in. Then he accused her of spreading it herself. Most of the social media platform asks for the location. Most people’s smartphones automatically collect location data continuously.

There are more than a few examples of people, being targeted by thieves due to geolocation data automatically shared by them on their social apps. Walking a fine line between effective marketing and privacy intrusion is necessary to prevent data theft. Facebook and other social media networks are trying to adapt methods to lower down the cases of data theft amongst the user.

Everyone on Social Media Is a Journalist Today

Yes, indeed, you don’t have to become a journalist to give your voice in the world, instead, you can use social media platforms for this. But now, every single person is on social media without any ground-level reporting, without any proper level research or knowing properly, about the fact, and just keeping their points forward. Here is the lack of ethics and lack of execution.

People come up with ideas and other propaganda on how things should work without any basic background studies. Which itself is a reason for a lot of false news. Also, people tend to believe it instead of authentic news. Media literacy is very important for people who are self-made online journalists. If you pick a piece of information anywhere, you have to cross-check and cross-verify from 2-3 resources.

If other publishing houses have made points on it, then it is a piece of verified news or not. How many of the online media verify their information? How many of them are media literate? If we talk about Akash Banerjee, he claims to be India’s first Desh bhakt and influential political person. He runs a social satire platform where he tells the bitter truth and flaws of the persons who are in power and have some of the other responsibilities.

But what is he doing just sharing his idea and propaganda? That’s what these pages/people do, who tend to put their leg in the mud of journalism without knowing how it should be. Some of these people aggressively cover an issue that makes people believe in a pointless topic that is not important. People also evaluate politicians based on the issues covered in the press.

As technology is developing the web-based social networking has turned into a routine for every individual. It has expanded the online business and network across the globe. Social media have major advantages over traditional media. First, it immediately enables consumers to find out what is latest and in trend. Be it news, fashion, stock prices at the touch of a button. Digital music can be downloaded, too. You can read books on e-readers. In an increasingly fast-paced world, there is very little that we need to wait for anything.

The second advantage is its cost. Most online content is easily accessible, from blogs to social networking sites to news and entertainment sources. Finally, this media can reach every corner of the globe. No matter which part of the globe you are in, you can participate and learn from people all across the world. Social Media has different merits, yet it has a few faults. It has increased data theft over the internet. Anything free makes us Indians happy, but free can be costly. We need to control ourselves when it comes to free Wi-Fi.
