West Hegemony amid Rising Russian Power, and India's Stance

The west since time immemorial has been dominating in Political, Economic and Military capacity. The smaller and weaker countries ended up becoming the war zone for rival superpowers. India as a rising power took steps that would not affect the rivalries of the third parties by keeping national interest first.

The US contribution to the World Bank stands at 17.25% of the capital share. The decision of the World Bank always adheres to the interest of the US. It also has more voting power, so the world bank could not take independent actions. 22% of the entire United Nation's Budget in 2020 came from the US.

On the other side Russia is one of the largest producers of nuclear energy. It also exports tons of oil and gas to European nations. Sanctions against Russia even cripple energy flow one after another. Russia is the third- largest oil producer. Several nations are dependent on Russian exports. It also stockpiled military equipment and manufactured new armaments without revealing to foreign nations.

With everything well planned, the Russian invasion started on 24, February, 2022. It is also an attempt to restructure the powers from the west.  The US and NATO come together and try to downplay the invasion of Russia. Sanctioning in various sectors, but sanctions on Russia have a short term impact and it is not the first time.

14 % of oil imports of India came from the US. But, during the war, New Delhi never chose friendship although that 46 % of India's arms by value came from Russia (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) (2017-2021). The S-400 Missile from Russia is also waiting to be delivered.

Putin visited India around three months before the war at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Focus on terrorism as a common threat, terrorist financing, the flow of arms and the drug trade. Russia and India have worked together for around three multilateral groupings such as Russia-India-China (RIC), BRICS and SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization ). Conversations are always carried forward at the Bilateral meeting as well .

Therefore, at the time of war, New Delhi knew whom to cooperate more and respect the historical relations that New Delhi has both with the US and Russia.
