Hello, my name is Malaika D’Souza, and I am entering my third year at the University of Portsmouth, where I am studying Journalism with Media Studies. I also plan to pursue a master’s degree in International Journalism at Cardiff University in the coming year.
I want to specialise in journalism because, as a British South Asian who grew up feeling unheard and underrepresented, I believe it is crucial to have diverse voices in the media to accurately reflect our society.
I am passionate about the news because it allows us to be engaged citizens and have meaningful conversations about important issues, enabling us to develop a deeper understanding of the world around us. Additionally, a passion for the news can inspire us to take action and make a positive impact, which is definitely something I strive toward.
Therefore, I am incredibly grateful to be completing a two-month Journalism Internship with The Social Talks, where I have a platform to share my articles for a company whose values perfectly align with mine. I resonate deeply with their motto, “A Step Towards Change,” and their mission to reach an audience of the younger generation, like myself.
