Embracing mental health

Mental health is a concept that everyone knows but is not aware of. As humans, we are often told to look on the bright side whenever any problems arise, which is not a bad idea. The real problem arises when we try to explain our feelings and are thrown off by a laugh or just ignored. Why are we always told not to think about low moments and focus on positivity? Why is it so necessary to not focus on what your mind and body are experiencing? A reason for this could be that nobody is taught how to process emotions. We are always taught that the end will be better, but why can't we process what we are experiencing now so that our end will be the best?

To take care of our mental health, we should first acknowledge that we are in crisis. Many times, we ourselves are not sure what to do in situations where our minds look unrecognizable. In today's fast-paced world, where productivity often takes priority over self-care, embracing mental health has become a revolutionary act of self-love and resilience. The stigma surrounding mental health issues has gradually started to diminish, thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates and the growing recognition of their importance to overall well-being. However, despite this progress, many still struggle to openly acknowledge and prioritize their mental health.

Embracing mental health is not merely about seeking treatment when faced with challenges; it encompasses a holistic approach to self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-care. It involves recognizing the interconnectedness of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and nurturing them with compassion and understanding. How people allow themselves to calm down from stress can be varied; for some, embracing mental health can be through reading, while for others, it may be through mediation. The ways can be different, but effort should be made.

One of the fundamental aspects of embracing mental health is destigmatizing the conversation surrounding it. Often, we are unable to share our feelings and thoughts openly. This happens because no one is taught how to tackle such situations. We need to create safe spaces where individuals feel comfortable discussing their struggles without fear of judgment or discrimination. Open dialogue fosters empathy and solidarity, reminding us that we are not alone in our experiences.

Self-awareness is another crucial component of embracing mental health. It involves being conscious of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and recognizing patterns that may be contributing to our well-being or distress. Through practices such as mindfulness and journaling, we can cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Moreover, embracing mental health requires us to challenge societal norms and expectations that perpetuate unrealistic standards of success and happiness. It's about recognizing that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but rather a testament to our humanity. By embracing our imperfections and acknowledging our limitations, we free ourselves from the burden of unrealistic expectations and allow room for growth and self-compassion.

Self-care plays a pivotal role in embracing mental health. It involves prioritizing activities that nourish our mind, body, and soul, whether it's through exercise, creative expression, or spending time in nature. Self-care is not an indulgence; it's a necessity for maintaining balance and resilience in the face of life's challenges.

Furthermore, seeking professional help when needed is a crucial aspect of embracing mental health. Just as we would seek medical attention for physical ailments, we must recognize the importance of seeking therapy or counselling for mental health concerns. Therapists provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for us to explore our thoughts and feelings, learn coping strategies, and develop resilience. When we are heard by others, we get a sense of belonging. The process of opening up our thoughts feels like giving away pieces of our minds which makes us. While we give out pieces of our minds, we also realise the answers we need are within us.

Embracing mental health is an ongoing journey that requires patience, courage, and resilience. It's about acknowledging that healing is not linear and that setbacks are a natural part of the process. By embracing our vulnerabilities and celebrating our strengths, we empower ourselves to live authentically and wholeheartedly. While we may not always reach our goals in the first go but least we would have made an effort to focus on our health.

In conclusion, embracing mental health is a transformative act of self-love and resilience. It involves destigmatizing the conversation surrounding mental health, cultivating self-awareness, challenging societal norms, prioritizing self-care, and seeking professional help when needed. By embracing our humanity and honoring our experiences, we pave the way for a more compassionate and supportive world where mental health is valued and prioritized. So let's embark on this journey together, with courage and compassion, and embrace the beauty of our imperfect selves.
