Fans of the hit comedy television series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will remember the stoic nature and deep voice of Captain Raymond Holt forever as he left a remarkable impression on fans as well as colleagues. The man behind great characters like Holt and Frank Pembleton, Andre Braugher, passed away at the age of 61.

Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen confirmed his death following a brief illness. Braugher was originally from Chicago and he went on to graduate from Stanford as well as later attending Juilliard. The award-winning actor was as accomplished as television personas come. Totaling 6 Emmy nominations across several noteworthy shows, Baugher’s death comes with a heavy heart from many. His Brooklyn Nine-Nine costar Terry Crews wrote on Instagram, “I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you, and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts”.

Braugher appeared in films like Glory, Spike Lee’s Get On The Bus, City of Angels, and Primal Fear. However, he was most notable for his stellar performances on television. Braugher spent 100 episodes as Detective Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life On The Street. He won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He also won an Emmy for his work in the FX mini-series, “Thief” where he played the leader of a heist crew. The talents of Braugher weren’t limited to television dramas.

In 2015 after beginning his comedic role as Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Braugher told NBC's The Today Show, “I felt I needed to grow as an artist. I feel like my mind is expanding, my capability as an actor. My ability to mine comedy is rising.” Braugher showcased his limitless acting range flawlessly as he collected 4 Emmy Nominations for his work as Raymond Holt. Braugher was also proud of the show's ability to showcase real-life issues like police brutality. Braugher told  Variety Magazine “ Brooklyn Nine-Nine has to commit itself, as a comedy, to telling the story of how these things happen, and what’s possible to deal with them”.

Andre Braugher will be survived by his wife and fellow actor, Ami Brabson, as well as his sons Michael, Isaiah, and John.
