The Summer I Turned Pretty Returns

This week, the beloved teen romance show The Summer I Turned Pretty returns for the premiere of season two. The show stars Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad, Gavin Casalegna as Jeremiah and Sean Kaufman as Steven. The highly rated Prime Video show is an adaptation of New York Times best selling author, Jenny Han’s, book. Since writing the book Han has played a large role in the adaptation from paper to video.

What Can We Expect?

Season two will align with the next book in the series It’s Not Summer Without You. If the show stays true to the events in the second book, we can expect to see a continuation of the juicy love triangle that formed between Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad in Season 1. Additionally, as the first season hinted at an impending tragedy for the boys’ mom Susannah, we can expect to see the boys dealing with the grief of their mother’s passing in Season 2. Belly will be reunited with Jeremiah as Conrad goes missing from the beach house and the two will embark on a roadtrip to find him. Once again, Belly will find her heart being pulled in both directions as she struggles to sort out her feelinging for the boys.

Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, revealed some insight in an interview with Us Weekly on what we will see from his character in the upcoming season. Casalegno said “I feel like people are going to relate to him and understand him better.” Perhaps we will get more of the story from his perspective.

What Will Change With Season 2?

Actors Elsie Fisher and Kyra Sedgwick will be joining the cast for the new season. This was revealed through an instagram video in August of 2022 that introduced Fishers character as Skye with the hashtag #TheSummerITurnedPretty. However, there is no character named Skye in the books, so it seems that this season may end up straying a bit from what we are familiar with.

Another large cast change from season one to two will be the absence of Minnie Mills who played the elegant and lovable debutante as well as Steven’s love interest.

Is There More to Come?

There are three books in the series so if all goes well for Season 2, fans hope for a Season three. However, Amazon has yet to release any information regarding the continuation of the series from a sequel to a trilogy.
