It’s not recent news that we need to be more eco-friendly. If we don’t change our ways, climate change will be irreversible by 2030, more than one million species will be extinct, and greenhouse gas levels will be at an all-time high. Being sustainable means meeting human needs without using all the resources needed for future generations. Sustainability is based upon environmental protection, economic development, social equity and human sustainability.

According to World Wildlifethe world is already 1.1° C (1.9° F) hotter than it was between 1850 and 1900.

So, what can you do to be more sustainable?

Boycott products that endanger wildlife. shop thoughtfully and look for products made from sustainable materials like bamboo.

Look for labels that are Fairtrade certified. This means that the product is being fairly produced

Skip plastic bottles and refill instead. Did you know there are 5.25 trillion macro and micro pieces of plastic in our ocean?

Use energy-efficient products such as light bulbs and programmable thermostats in your home.

Use your voice and your vote. Vote for candidates with positive environmental views. Urge your representatives to limit greenhouse gases,  tackle climate change, and protect our wildlife.

Limit food waste. You could even take a trip to your local food bank to donate.

Why is being sustainable important?

Sustainability improves environmental quality, encouraging healthy communities. It also means we will have clean air and nontoxic atmospheric conditions resulting in a healthy lifestyle. It ensures the next generation will have a bright future and easy access to items.
