Arsenal Starts Struggling on Top in Final Six

With only six matches left in the 2022-2023 Premier League , Arsenal has only one chance of staying on top of the place by winning the next game against Manchester City. A loss or a draw could be an end to Arsenal’s chances of earning the championship title.

Their latest match against Southampton at Emirate Stadium, which ended in a 3-3 draw, showed that the team might have a struggle competing in the next six games.

The first minute of the game started with a mistaken pass from Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.  Ramsdale  tried to pass the ball to his teammate which resulted in the ball being passed to Southampton’s midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, leading Alcaraz to score Southampton’s third league goal in the season.

The second goal from Southampton came 13 minutes after from forward player Theo Walcott. Scoring his second goal in the season, Walcott refused to celebrate as he previously played with Arsenal before transferring.

Six minutes after Southampton’s second goal, Arsenal was able to score their first goal with an assist from Bukayo Saka to Gabriel Martinelli. The first half finished with a 2-1 loss to Arsenal.

20 minutes into the second half of the game, Southampton centre-back Duje Caleta-Car scored the goal, suggesting Arsenal would lose the match 3-1.

However, Arsenal’s midfielder Martin Odegaard and right-wing Bukayo managed to score within the last two minutes of the game; ending the match 3-3.

Although a win would have been beneficial for Arsenal, the draw against Southampton left Arsenal the need to win the next match against Manchester City in order to advance. With only five points behind Arsenal, Manchester City currently holds second place in the league table which will prove to be a challenge for Arsenal.

If Arsenal advances after playing Manchester City, they would need to play against Chelsea on  May 2, which Arsenal already won against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, 1-0 on November 6.

The kick-off for Manchester City would take place at Etihad Stadium on April 26, if Arsenal loses or draws against Manchester City, then Manchester City would have a high chance in becoming a champion.
