Gerrit Cole tosses a gem against the Minnesota Twins to end the 4 game series.

Cole went the distance, pitching 9 innings with 10 strikeouts and 109 pitches, only allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

The Yankees win the game thanks to Cole and DJ LeMahieu who drove in a run with a single in the third inning, driving in Aaron Judge. LeMahieu also hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. This performance allowed the Yankees to avoid losing a series for the first time this year.

The first game of the series the Yankees were embarrassed by a score of 11-2. Rookie pitcher, Jhony Brito didn’t make it out of the first inning, giving up 6 hits and 7 runs.

Game 2 saw a strong performance by Nestor Cortes Jr. who pitched 7 innings only allowing 2 runs. Rookie Anthony Volpe hit his first major league home run. But the Yankees gave up the game late in the game, losing 4-3.

With Domingo German on the mound for Game 3, the Yankees bounced back winning 6-1. German had a career high 10 strikeouts.

Gerrit Cole had 10 strikeouts himself and that made it his 23rd game with the Yankees where he had 10 or more strikeouts which ties the franchise record held by Ron Guidry.

Cole also passed Whitey Ford on the Yankees all time strikeout list. T

here has been a lot of talk around Cole being a true Ace for the Yankees. Especially after Cole had been called out for using “sticky stuff” before the MLB crack down on the illegal sticky substance known as “spider tac”.

NBC Sports and MLB Network didn’t have Cole in the Top 10 pitchers leading into the 2023.

Cole currently is 4-0 in 4 games starts with a 0.95 ERA.
