Former College Swimmer Riley Gaines gets assaulted by someone in San Francisco

Former national college swimmer Riley Gaines got assaulted by someone at San Francisco State University (SFSU).

Being an outspoken critic of transgender athletes in women’s support, Riley was attending the event to put forward her views. The 23-year-old butterfly swimmer has won many trophies and qualified for the U.S. Olympics Trials 2021 and NCCA qualifiers of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Riley Gaines posted on her Twitter that she was chased and verbally abused by protesters at the SFSU event. Due to this, she had to cease her talk amid the debate over the role of trans athletes in women’s sports.

Furthermore, she posted a video on her Twitter and captioned it, “I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man. This is proof that women need sex-protected spaces.”

In the video, Gaines was walking rapidly along with security officers protecting her. Protesters shouted, “Trans rights are human rights,” in the short clip. However, the video doesn’t have any evidence of Gaines being assaulted.

The university police department (UPD) has initiated an investigation into the situation but hasn’t found any suspect. The UPD officers said in a statement, “The disruption occurred after the conclusion of the event, which made it necessary for the UPD officers to move the event speakers to a different, safe location.”

San Francisco University spokesperson Kent Bravo told CNN that Gaines's appearance at the event was scheduled through a reputed student organization. The conservative organization Turning Point USA was the organizer of this event, according to Bravo.

Riley Gaines received tremendous attention from various activists, politicians, celebrities, and journalists who hold up the rights of trans women and condemn such violence.

Republican Kari Lake stood in support of the young swimmer and tweeted, “Never stop @Railey_Gaines_

You are a warrior.”

Meanwhile, Gaines received criticism as well by anti-trans supporters. Republican Leora Levy tweeted in response to Riley Gaines's statement, “The violent moment seeks to erase women. Stand up and say; No! I am a proud woman, and you can’t erase us.”

Dr. Jordan B Peterson also criticized the trans movement, “Hey, progressive. How does it feel to be supporting men dressed up as women beating women."
