Napoli maintains their winning streak by beating their north archrivals Juventus with an uncontestable 5-1. Incredible performances from Georgian player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nigerian Victor Osimhen sealed a victory for the Gli Azzurri “The Blues”.

The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium was a witness to how Napoli started to control the game and constantly challenged Juventus’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. At 14’ when Kvaratskhelia’s shot was stopped by Szczęsny, Osimhen took advantage of the rebound and with a header scored the opening goal.

Angel Di María almost tied the game with a shot that hit the top bar at 20’. His missed shot clearly decreased Juventus’s chance to close the gap when Kvaratskhelia’s goal for Napoli at 36’, making it 2-0 for the Blues.

To make up for his earlier mistake, Angel Di María finally scored his second goal of the season to close the gap for Juventus at 42’ after receiving a pass from Milik. At the end of the first half, goalkeeper Alex Meret stopped an almost own goal from Kosovan Amir Rrahmani in minute 45’ + 2’.

In the second half, the danger seemed permanent for Szczęsny as Napoli’s forward Osimhen almost delivered a goal at 53’. The consequential corner kick performed by Kvaratskhelia gave Anguissa a chance to serve the ball for Rrahmani who shot to the goal to establish a 3-1 for Napoli.

The Nigerian star Osimhen showed himself spectacularly; he was a dagger and a constant danger for Juventus. Osimhen anticipated defender Bremer and shot to goal, but it was elevated over the top bar. Pressure from Napoli’s defender Mário Rui provoked a mistake from Bremer, leaving the ball for Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen to score a header and make it 4-1 for Napoli.

The nightmare hadn’t ended for Juventus yet. At 72’ Di Lorenzo controlled the ball and passed it to an open Elmas in the right wing. The latter cut off into the box area and shot the ball, only for it to be deflected by Bremer, making the ball fly over the goalkeeper to establish the 5-1 for the squad coached by Luciano Spaletti.

Napoli consolidates the lead after beating their closest rival Juventus 5-1. Victor Osimhen leads the top scorer table with 12 goals in 14 matches played. The Capocannoniere is followed by Argentinian striker Lautaro Martinez who has 9 goals in 18 matches played.

The next match for Napoli will be on Tuesday, January 17 against Cremonese for the Round 16 of Coppa Italia. On the other hand, Juventus will face Monza on Thursday, January 19 for the same round of Coppa Italia.

Napoli had not scored 5 goals against Juventus in an official match since the 1990 Supercoppa Italiana when late Maradona’s Napoli crushed Baggio’s Juventus by 5-1.
