Why was Reddit Down for Hours?

One of the biggest discussion forums on Reddit was down for hours yesterday. Reddit is a discussion forum where different social networking groups engage with each other. However, the app has been updated and the issues have been resolved according to Reddit’s status page.

A total of 67,387 people reported errors during the outage, according to Downdetector. According to the data, there were errors reported by 56% of app users, and 32% of website users. Apart from that, 12% were server connection issues.

During the outage, Reddit wasn’t working on browsers and the app. When users were trying to load or open the app, they were facing errors. iOS and Chrome browser users were finding difficulty in accessing the comment sections. Whereas, their Home and Discover tabs were working fine.

At 3:18 p.m. EST posted a status message after receiving reports massively. The message read that the platform is “currently offline”, and that they are trying to identify the issue.

At 3:56 p.m., another message popped up on Reddit’s status page. The message read that the outage was the result of an internal system issue. However, the solution to the outage hasn’t been determined yet.

At 5:45 p.m., the status page of the browser gave another update. The message reported that it would take some time to fix the issue and the users would have to wait for a while.

At 7:18 p.m., Reddit was functioning properly for some users. Yet, thousands of people were still unable to access the forum. Many people reported that their Reddit wasn’t functioning adequately and they were having errors.

After a short while, at about 8:17 p.m., Reddit restored itself to full capacity. At the same time, a status message was posted by the official community saying, “Almost back”. At 8:24 p.m., it started doing a bang-up job.
