A fire broke out in two residential buildings in Valencia - an eastern Spanish city - on Thursday, injuring at least 13 people. Other residents of the building were found fleeing to the balconies where they were later rescued by firefighters.
The fire began in the early evening in one of the buildings and spread to an adjacent one due to its proximity, state news Efe reported. Service reports claimed at least 13 people were injured with fractures, burns, and smoke inhalation, of which six were firefighters.
Firefighters rushed to the burning buildings in the city centre. They used a crane to rescue two residents from one of the balconies.
The Spanish Military’s Emergency Unit was also present. They set up a large tent to provide medical support to the injured individuals.
The fire was large and sent black smoke around the city due to strong winds at the time.
During this time, the Spanish Prime Minister has demonstrated support on X (formerly twitter), writing: “I want to convey my solidarity to all the people affected and recognition to all the emergency personnel already deployed at the scene.”
