Concern for rising cases of student suicide in India.

We can see the rising number of cases of student suicide every passing year. Student suicide in India shows the intense pressure on young minds. After all this, the only question arises who is the culprit of all these happening around? Whose pressure is pressurizing them so much to opt for this kind of life-taking step?

Are the parents responsible for this or are the students themselves? Or, the society in which we are living.

An 18-year-old girl committed suicide because she was not able to clear the JEE exams. She wrote in her suicide “Sorry, Mama-Papa, I can’t do JEE and I am a loser.” Another incident: A PhD student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room.

In this fast-moving world, the friendly bond between a child and parent has been lost. Why do the students only think that if they don’t succeed in these competitions then they are not fit to live here? They only know that success in competitive exams, such as JEE and NEET, is the only way to do well in life. This thinking leads to intense mental pressure on them.

Before taking these destructive steps, they only think about what society will think. What will they say?

The answer came along with the question. They would criticize them because of their failures. Society's pressure leads parents to create an aura around their children. They believe exams are the only way to succeed. This kind of thought leads to pressurize them.

On average data in the year 2022 total of 2000 students had committed suicide due to the cause of failure in exams. According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in 2020, every 42 minutes a student took their life in India.

Education in India has now been limited to getting employment and livelihood rather than knowledge. Many students and their families dream of getting government jobs. Societies use education as a tool. The next generation can overcome barriers of social status, financial conditions, etc.

The condition gets worse because there are very few seats in those colleges (IITs, IIMs, and medical colleges) compared to the number of applicants. Due to this level of competition exam oriented coaching had become the norm. According to parents coaching has emerged as the best option to fix a seat in those colleges for a better future.

Before proceeding to any competitive exams, teach your children that excelling in exams isn't the only priority. They must also learn how to stand and fight in this competitive society. You, just give your 100%, no matter what the result will be. Parents should always be there for you. Our only priority is to see you as a happy and successful person but not at the cost of your life. The words of society can’t define or decide your success
