Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. The King has been advised to postpone his public appearances and duties for the time being.
The palace has yet to reveal what kind of cancer the King, who is 75, has or at which hospital he is being treated. They have, however, announced that it is not prostate cancer. This comes after his recent treatment for prostate enlargement. The cancer was found during this treatment.
On the afternoon of February 6, 2024, King Charles and Camilla left Clarence House, where they were pictured heading for Buckingham palace. They then left the Palace and arrived at Sandringham by helicopter.
Prince Harry was also pictured arriving in the United Kingdom after travelling from the United States to visit the King. People are unsure of how long the meeting between King Charles and Prince Harry lasted or whether Harry travelled with his father to Buckingham Palace or remained in Clarence House.
The Prince of Wales, William, is set to be taking over some royal duties while the King is undergoing his treatment. The palace does not believe that the King will be unable to perform all his tasks, the King intends to continue with official ‘red box’ documents and paperwork from the government whilst undergoing treatment in hospital.
The prince had recently taken some time off to support his family and his wife. The Princess of Wales, Kate, has recently had abdominal surgery. The Princess is said to be doing well with her recovery.
Kate was admitted to hospital on January 16, and the palace has confirmed that the reason for her surgery was not cancer. William took time off after Kate’s surgery to help look after their children and give the princess time to recover. It is also said that Kate is not set to resume her royal duties until after Easter.
Many people are shocked at the candour with which the royal family are talking about their health issues. The palace has announced two back-to-back health announcements concerning the King and Princess Kate.
