Video footage of Donald Trump’s deposition that was used in the E Jean Carroll’s case was released to the public on Friday, showing the former US president strongly denying the allegations against him.
Donald Trump’s deposition video footage was from last October, where Trump was answering the question based on Carrol's accusations.
In the video, Trump made the statement that “it didn’t happen and by the way if it did happen it would have been reported within minutes.” Trump added that the claim against him was “the most ridiculous disgusting story it was just made up.”
In the civic trial, Carroll claims that Trump raped her at a Manhattan department store in New York during the 1990s after being asked to follow him in the dressing room.
Trump came across as confused in the video when told to identify the people in the image. The image includes Trump with three other people: John Johnson from NBC News, his ex-wife Marla Maples, and Carroll. Trump mistakenly identified Carroll as his ex-wife.
Once the realisation was made, Trump backed himself in saying the image was ‘blurry.’
Although the former US president denied Carroll’s allegations is facing a defamation lawsuit Trump has yet to attend the trial in New York and has since been in Ireland.
“We have a long-standing agreement to come here,” Trump said in a Sky News report. “We’ve had a tremendous reception, a beautiful reception. The people of Ireland have been great, and we’ve had tremendous success, and I hear we’re doing very well in New York.”
As Trump is currently in Ireland, Carroll has stayed in New York for the trial.
“I’m here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen,” Carroll said. “He lied and shattered my reputation, and I’m here to try and get my life back.”
In addition to the Carroll case, Trump is currently indicted for a pending criminal case for his alleged role relating to hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
