Trump Delivers Sprawling Speech at Conservative Action Conference

As presidential candidate rumors start swirling through U.S. media (with Nikki Haley throwing her bid in for the Republicans and Marianne Williamson respectively for the Democrats), one former president is making waves once again. On March 4th, former President Trump took the stage at the Conservative Action Conference (CAC) in Maryland to address numerous topics, including that he would not drop out of the 2024 race even if he is investigated for any federal or state crimes.

During his time onstage, the president stated that “In 2016, I declared I am your voice; today, I add, I am your warrior, I am your justice, and … I am your retribution”. Regarding dropping out of the presidential race, the former president stated that he “…wouldn’t even think about leaving”.

These strong claims come after a slew of controversies that have followed Trump, most recently in light of the former president facing multiple investigations for the incitement of the storming of the U.S. Capitol in 2021, as well as the probing efforts being done in Georgia regarding the withholding of election results during the 2020 Presidential election.

The former president touched upon other topics throughout his speech at the CAC as well, including criticism of President Biden’s actions as president, criticisms of former and current Republican politicians, and how Republicans should maneuver during the next elections.

Aside from his criticisms of the Republican party and current government officials, Trump also claimed that he plans on leading the Republican party toward a more isolationist structure. Following this structure, Trump said, “We are never going back to a party that wants to give unlimited money to fight foreign endless wars but demands we cut veteran benefits and retirement benefits at home”.

Trump’s speech during the Conservative Action Conference falls in line with what the former president has claimed in previous conservative meetings and follows his past rhetoric for both his supporters and critics. In other words, the president it seems is continuing to double down on his bid for the presidency once again.

Regardless of whether one agrees with his speech or not, polls taken during the CAC show that Trump is the conservative’s first choice for their presidential nominee, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis following behind. However, these polls shouldn’t be taken too strongly due to the fact that the poll was taken solely at the CAC and it is still too early for any polls to deliver strong results for nominees.
