Ukraine Recovers more of the Territories, Russia had earlier claimed to annex

In a late-night video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday asserted that Ukrainian forces have regained more territories in Kherson and beyond. The areas like Novovoskresenske, Novohryhorivka, and Petropavlivka to the northeast of Kherson city had been "liberated '', adds  Zelensky.

This move comes as a counter-offensive to Russian forces as Ukraine forces persisted in occupying control over more land. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had claimed they had annexed four regions from Ukraine.

The above Ukrainian forces move is now making Putin’s annexation unrealistic. Also, undermines the Russian powers to annex regions where it is stumbling to gain control.

Russia soliciting for Secret Ballot at UNGA

In a vote concerning condemnation or not to Russia over its recent annexation of Ukraine’s territory. Russia is constantly splicing on a secret ballot vote, unlike the public vote. Recently, Moscow annexed four Ukrainian territories namely, Donetsk and Luhansk in the east and Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south. Also, the resolution to condemn Moscow’s move at the 193-member United Nations General Assembly has to be showcased next week for the same.

Coerced addition of Territories in Russia

On Wednesday, a new law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The law seeks to incorporate the four regions into Russia, and around 18% of the territory of Ukraine will be incorporated into Russia.

Responding to the law, Ukraine responded by claiming that it is an unauthorised forceful seizure of its territory and that it will never concede to it. While, Kyiv and the West, asserted that the referendums were outcomes of rigged votes held at gunpoint. Kyiv also accused Moscow of capturing its territory.

This annexation by Moscow is being seen as similar to Europe’s biggest annexation of territories of Portugal since World War Two.

Mobilising Russian People

In his address, Zelensky said that he and his senior military official met on Wednesday to talk about how they could recover territories they lost to Russia. Thereafter, Zelensky switched his language to Russian and told them 'they had already lost'.

"Ukrainians know what they are fighting for. And more and more citizens of Russia are realising that they must die simply because one person does not want to end the war," he said in a reference to Putin.

Moscow's claim over the Ukrainian Territory

A newly published Moscow map of Ukraine by the state news agency RIA included the full territory of Ukrainian provinces. Some parts were also shaded and mentioned to be under Ukrainian military control.

Now, dozens of settlements have been liberated this week across four regions that Russia “annexed” last week, Zelenskyy said.

Moscow's claim over the territories remains uncertain as none of the territories have been fully occupied by Russian forces because of the counter-offensive movement of the Ukrainian government in the east and south. Also, the US government's persistent aid makes it abstruse.

The Biden administration announced another $625 million in military aid to Kyiv on Tuesday.
