Trans People Can Be Baptized, Says Vatican

In a milestone move, the Catholic Church has taken a significant step towards inclusivity by affirming the baptism of transgender individuals and the children of same-sex couples. Even those born through surrogacy. 

This announcement, made by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and approved by the Pope on October 31st. Signifies a positive shift in the Church's approach, embracing individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, while upholding the values of the faith. The Church's statement asserts that transgender individuals, regardless of whether they have undergone hormonal treatment or gender reassignment surgery, can receive the sacrament of baptism. 

However, the caveat lies in situations where there is a risk of public scandal or confusion among the faithful. This consideration demonstrates the Church's willingness to be inclusive while respecting its congregation's sensitivities. Moreover, the document affirms the baptism of children born to same-sex couples, even those brought into the world through surrogacy. The condition for baptism in such cases is a well-founded hope, that these children will be raised in the Catholic faith.
