One of America’s hottest and most famous couples, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, have announced their decision to separate after 7 long years of marriage. The heartbreaking joint statement issued by the couple which left their fans shocked read:
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for the respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
The popular Modern Family actress who is now a judge at America’s Got Talent first met Joe Manganiello through her Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2014. Vergara was then engaged to her longtime partner Nick Loeb, but destiny had different plans for her. Things didn’t work out between the two, which led to them calling off their engagement.
But soon fate took a fortunate turn after Sofia met Manganiello in 2014. The couple instantly fell head over heels in love and got engaged during their Christmas holidays the same year. The two tied the knot a year later, on 21st November 2015 in a three-day extravagant wedding event in Florida. Vergara later described her wedding as a “fairy tale wedding” and was often seen talking about her love-struck relationship with her newlywed husband on numerous occasions.
Manganiello who married his “celebrity crush” was deeply in love with Sofia describing her as the “ideal woman” for him. The happy couple constantly spoke about their equation and their happily married life on various shows and events.
But their love couldn’t last very long, and the two of them soon started to drift apart. The couple announced their separation on the 17th July via a joint statement to ‘Page Six’ while Vergara was still in Italy celebrating her 51st birthday with close friends. Vergara who is an avid Instagram user has posted many pictures of her birthday week in Italy but has not yet commented on the news of her separation with Manganiello.
Manganiello on the other hand has moved forward with the legal proceedings and filed for divorce on July 19 in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The 46-year-old actor has cited "irreconcilable differences" as the cause behind their split and listed July 2, 2023, as the date of separation.
The divorce filing by Joe Manganiello also reveals that the couple had signed a Prenuptial Agreement. The filing for divorce just two days after their news of separation confirms that there is no scope for reconciliation and has left the duo’s fans broken hearted.
