The Screen Actors Guild Awards Awards took place on February 25th this year. It was the 30th award ceremony for the SAG Awards, which was held in Los Angeles, honouring the best performances of the year in films and television.
Oppenheimer was, again, a big winner of the night and dominated yet another award ceremony ahead of the Oscars on March 10th. Cillian Murphy won an award for Best Actor for Oppenheimer, and Robert Downey Jr won Best Supporting Actor for the same. The cast of Oppenheimer also won an award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
There were also big wins for television last night, with Steven Yeun and Ali Wong winning Best Actor and Actress for the show Beef. Another television show which also took home many awards was The Bear. Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri took home the awards for Best Actor and Actress in a comedy series, and the cast won the award for Best Ensemble Cast in a comedy series.
Pedro Pascal also generated a storm on social media when he accepted his award for Best Actor in a drama series, drunk. The 48-year-old admitted that he was “a little drunk” when he went up to accept his award for the show The Last of Us. Pascal said that he thought he would be able to get drunk, because he did not believe that it would be him winning the award.
The stars showed up and posed on the red carpet, which was something that they were unable to do during the SAG-AFTRA strike. Stars such as Anne Hathaway wore a cerulean Versace dress in reference to The Devil Wears Prada. The Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt wore a striking Louis Vuitton red dress as she, Anne Hathway, and Meryl Streep reunited to present an award for the night.
Margot Robbie wore a black Schiaparelli mini dress which had a pink shoulder detail that led into a train. Many on social media thought Robbie looked stunning in this outfit, whilst others took to social media to say that it looked like she had “tied a comforter” to her dress. Ariana Greenblatt was a nominee for her role in the movie Barbie and looked stunning, wearing a dark-red custom Vera Wang dress.
The men of the SAG Awards also looked striking with Pedro Pascal cutting a very “Mr. Darcy” look according to the internet, wearing an unbuttoned Prada shirt. Jeremy Allen White wore an all-white Yves Saint Laurent suit with Tiffany and Co. jewellery.
This award show comes after the SAG-AFTRA strike officially ended on November 9th , 2023. It started on July 14th, 2023, with hundreds of Hollywood stars supporting the strike and signing the open letter in support of industrial action. During this time, the actors who were a part of SAG-AFTRA were forbidden to perform in and publicise their works. This meant no premiers, press, or red-carpet events. However, this event confirms that the actors can now freely attend awards shows and talk about their work, with the demands of SAG-AFTRA being met.
