Kamal Haasan's official stance regarding joining the INDIA bloc

Kamal Haasan, the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), declared on Wednesday that his party will back any political coalition that "selflessly" considers the interests of the country while shunning "feudal politics."

The actor-politician said that MNM had not yet joined the alliance when asked if it would be a part of the INDIA bloc. “As I've mentioned, now is the time to put party politics aside and consider the country's interests. Those who have a selfless thought for the country, my Makkal Needhi Maiam, shall be included. However, we won't participate in local, feudal politics,” Haasan told the media during the party flag's hoisting as part of MNM's seventh-anniversary festivities in Chennai.

Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Haasan stated that talks are on regarding his party's partnership and that the media will be informed of "good news."

In response to accusations that he is not a full-time politician and still acts in films, Haasan stated that nobody can be a full-time politician and asserted that his loss in the Coimbatore South Assembly election in 2021 was not solely his fault. 90,000 individuals did not cast ballots in that election, he said, calling it a failure of democracy. He went on to say that anyone who questions him should also ask why they do not live in the country full-time. If this keeps up, he warned, an honest guy will never be elected.

To raucous cheers from the party cadres, Kamal Haasan said, "People said it will be difficult to pull me into politics, let me tell you, it will be more difficult to push me out of it."

According to the MNM leader, the Union government has failed to implement even 10% of the farmer-benefiting programs that the Tamil Nadu government has successfully implemented. To discourage farmers from entering, he claimed, "they have now tightened the security around the national capital with iron nails on the road, multilayered barricading like akin to measures taken to prevent enemy invasions."

In response to a query concerning actor Vijay's decision to enter politics and his subsequent choice to give up performing before doing so, Haasan stated that politics is a personal choice and that everyone approaches it differently.
MNM has participated in two elections since its inception on February 21, 2018. The most recent of which was the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, however, its impact has been minimal.
