Schoolchildren dispersed due to bomb threat in Chennai, India

Five prominent private schools in Chennai dispersed their students after receiving bomb threats yesterday morning.

Schools sent out an email to parents informing them of the bomb threat warning, and outlining the recommendation from the authorities that children be sent home at 1pm.

One of the emails from a school principal was shared on twitter. It said: “We urge parents not to panic and kindly cooperate with the school to facilitate a smooth dispersal process.”

Police and bomb squads were deployed to ensure safe student dismissal. Police urged people not to panic and said that they were working to find the culprit who sent out the emails.

According to The Hindu, the police have said that the threats were a hoax. The schools were all searched and no bombs were found. There will be a cyber investigation to trace the IP address of the emails and identity the culprit.
