Films are a source of great entertainment and when we look back in time many such films celebrate their silver jubilee and we just cannot stop thinking about them, right from their plot to dialogues that take over our hearts even today after 25 glorious years. 1996 was truly a golden year with surprising classic Bollywood and Hollywood Films, there are series of films that we binge-watch even today after a century of its release. Well, let’s take a glimpse of some these beloved films that have turned out be a memoir with time. 

 

1. Maachis

 Maachis is based on a realistic portrayal of terrorism that took place in Punjab during the 1984 riots. This film was directed by Gulzar and it stars Tabu, Om Puri, and Chandrachur Singh. It won several awards. The film revolves around the circumstances surrounding the rise in the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the year 1980s and traces the transformation of a youth from a boy on the next door to one angry person bent on wreaking vengeance, after receiving a gross injustice from the political system and various sidelines had been labeled as terrorist, to make that easy to kill him without having any state accountability.

 

2. Tu Chor Main Sipahi

 Tu Chor Main Sipahi is another very memorable action film from the 90s. That talks about a police officer who had teamed up with a master thief to secure freedom in a village from the rule of an evil landowner. This film is worth a good watch if you are looking to spend some quality time with your family on a Sunday and roll in the old days.

 

3. Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi

When Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi was released it had become the talk of Bollywood. The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Rekha was amazing. Although, this film is now categorized as one of the top-class meme sources. The storyline of the film centers around a man (Akshay Kumar) who goes hunting for his missing brother, but he is also a wanted criminal by the police.

 

4. Raja Hindustani

 When we look at Raja Hindustani from the 90s, we have all heard its songs as kids. The film is about Raja who is a taxi driver and falls in love with Aarti, a girl that belongs to a wealthy family. Once they get married, her parents try to create differences between the couple. This film is a great watch for the audience who enjoy Bollywood drama in its true meaning.

 

5. Khamoshi: The Musical

 Khamoshi is a musical-romantic film that talks about the daughter of deaf and mute parents and how they support her when she discovered her love for music. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film had starred Seema Biswas, Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar, and Salman Khan. This film has won many awards and is definitely worth a watch.

 

6. Matilda

 Matilda is a Hollywood film that gives a sense of instant watch and gives a feeling of hope and warmth. The story revolves around a little girl named Matilda Wormwood who is just extremely intelligent, bright, and also gifted with a unique talent. However, she is misunderstood by her family, teachers, and people around her because of her uniqueness.

 

7. Dunston Checks In

Dunston Checks In was released back in 1996 and is based on comedy-drama, it is a great film to watch if you are one comedy film enthusiast. The film is very childlike and simple. The story revolves around a young boy who had befriended an orangutan in one luxury hotel.

 

8. The English Patient

 The English Patient talks about the time that was close to World War II and the storyline centers around a young nurse who had become a badly burned plane crash victim. Throughout this film, his past is portrayed in form of flashbacks that show the audience that he is involved in a love affair.

 

9. Scream

The scream had become such a popular film when it got released, that later, people had decided to make parodies out of it. Scream is deliberately very funny to certain points but in subliminal ways, it remains one of the great teenage horror films. The story centers around a girl named Sydney Prescott who is targeted by an anonymous person and her friends for using horror films that are a part of a deadly game to kill all of them.

 

10. A Time To Kill

 A crime drama film which is based on John Grisham's 1989 novel of the same name. The story revolves around a brave young lawyer along with his assistant who defends a black man for being accused of the murder of two white men who had also raped his ten-year-old daughter. The film is inspired by Canton, Mississippi, and holds an atonality of the stubborn racism that had been witnessed in the history of America's Southern plantations.
