At approximately 7.25pm on Wednesday the 31st of January 2024, a 31-year-old woman and her two daughters – aged just eight and three – were savagely attacked with a strong corrosive substance in Clapham, South London. The attacker has since been identified as Abdul Ezedi after being spotted on CCTV leaving the Tesco where the assault occurred, located at 21 Caledonian Road later that day.

The assailant had allegedly thrown the 3-year-old child to the ground of the Tesco before driving away and crashing into a stationary vehicle. He then fled by foot. Ezedi has sustained injuries to the right-hand side of his face. Just two days after the attack, Commander John Savell issued a direct appeal to Abdul Ezedi, pleading him to turn himself in in order to receive appropriate medical care for his injuries.

The following day saw a surge in phone calls to The Metropolitan Police of Greater London (MET) regarding the manhunt for Ezedi, including details of sightings that has aided the investigation greatly. It was on this Friday that details emerged about Ezedi’s sexual offences in 2018, making him a convicted sex offender who received a suspended sentence at Newcastle Crown Court. He has been put on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and sentenced on the 9th of January of 2018, pleading guilty to one charge of exposure and another of sexual assault.

At 12.20pm on Sunday, Police Investigators made a direct appeal to the public, urging anybody with knowledge of his whereabouts to come forward, offering a £20,000 reward for any information about the attacker. The police suspect that he may be using an ally to remain hidden, appealing with them to give cooperate with authorities. However, despite this appeal for information, police have warned the public to not approach him Ezedi, but to contact them directly.

Although the relationship between the woman and Ezedi still remains ambiguous to investigators, an unnamed relative of Ezedi has stated that they were engaged in a relationship. The woman, after enduring life-changing injuries – remains in hospital. Her two daughters, whilst in a better condition, are also in hospital, significantly injured.

As the manhunt continues, Home Secretary James Cleverly has stated, “I urge the public to support the Metropolitan Police’s appeal and to come forward if they have any information.” As the authorities continue to work tirelessly to apprehend Ezedi, the public must also continue to collaborate in order to bring justice to the victims of the distressing attack on two young children and their mother.
