Gazing Through the Tiffany Glass: Audrey Hepburn’s Graphic Saga Beyond Breakfast

In the world of cinema and fashion, Audrey Hepburn has captivated audiences in a trascendental way. She stands as an enduring icon with charming grace and resilience.

La vida de Audrey Hepburn a golpe de cómic

Audrey Hepburn has become etched in the collective imagination. Her little black dress, her short hair, her figure, and her elegance have melted the world. However, there’s a lot behind this charming mask that very few people know. There’s an enormous lesser-known background to her story that goes beyond diamonds, New York glamour and fancy breakfast.

While her mother, a baroness, was initially tied to National Socialism, Hepburn’s parents were high-born Nazi sympathizers. ven The ideology was widespread in her family; some of her relatives were even arrested and subsequently executed..

For those who wish to delve into the life of this cinematic icon, it would be fitting to  read a biography. However, in Spain, a much more engaging formula providing an intimate exploration of the legendary actress's life has just been released. The graphic novel Audrey Hepburn (Aloha!) has recently  reached many countries, delivering what it promises.

The difference between the graphic novel and the comic is that the graphic novel  is a far more extended, self-contained work, akin to a traditional novel. On the other hand, the comic is often shorter, serialized, and focused on different genres.

The Spanish-language graphic novel, “Audrey Hepburn”  by Christopher, is one of the greatest French comics.  With a finely edited narrative written by Eileen Hofer in collaboration with Luca Dotti, the novel provides an intimate exploration of the legendary actress's personal life.

Truman Capote once described Audrey's face as a square with eyebrows, a comment that gained traction during the filming of "Breakfast at Tiffany’s." The graphic novel expands upon this remark, delving into the complexities of Audrey Hepburn's life from her challenging childhood to international stardom. Audrey was powerful woman who fought against injustice and inequality, leaving an indelible mark on history within a golden era in Hollywood.

Born in Brussels in 1929, Audrey faced hardship at the age of six  when her English father abandoned the family. Living in the Netherlands during World War II, she concealed her English roots, and her parents' Nazi sympathies deeply affected her. The graphic novel explores this turbulent period, emphasizing the "what if" moments that shaped her character.

Audrey's dreams of becoming a dancer were thwarted by wartime malnutrition, and her biography is intertwined with the specter of Anne Frank, reflecting shared experiences of the German invasion. Despite challenges, she flourished, showcasing not only luck but also talent and perseverance.

The novel also delves into her relationships, particularly with her first husband and manager, Mel Ferrer. Between "Roman Holiday" ,“Breakfast at Tiffanys” and "My Fair Lady," the graphic novel celebrates her triumphs, collaborations with Givenchy, and struggle to be a good mother.

Hepburn emigrated to Switzerland in the 1970s to escape paparazzi and protect her children. The graphic novel meticulously researched Audrey's life, aided by the collaboration of Luca Dotti.

ALOHA! captures the essence of Audrey's life through clean-lined illustrations, providing a narrative for fans as well as those who may be unfamiliar with the actress. Audrey is described as more than a style icon – a woman who, after surviving the horrors of World War II, dedicated her later years to humanitarian causes.
