Taylor Runs The Grammys

During the 66th Annual Grammy Awards which took place on the 4th of February,  2024, several established and up and coming stars won awards for their music. The Grammys is an annual award ceremony which honours the best music and artists of the year.

This year the Grammys were hosted by Trevor Noah, who has been praised by many for his ability to make jokes without being rude or bringing others down. An example of this was when Trevor Noah made a joke about how football fans are angry at Taylor Swift for taking up too much screen time at the NFL. Noah turned the joke into a positive one and joked about how it was not Taylor Swift's fault.

It was a big night at the Grammys with artists such as SZA, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift winning awards. Almost all the awards of the night were won by women and the award ceremony was very female dominated.

Some of the top Grammy Awards won were Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ for Album of the Year, Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ as Record of the Year, Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ for Song of the Year, and Victoria Monét for Best New Artist.

Taylor Swift entered the Grammys with high expectations from people on social media. Many people on social media believed that she was going to announce the release of her re-recorded album ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’. They believed that she had left easter eggs leading up the event, notably Taylor and her close friends changing their profile pictures on Instagram to black and white.

Whilst Taylor Swift did not announce the re-recorded version of Reputation, she did, however, announce the release of a new album called ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ which is set to be released on the 19th of April, 2024. Taylor Swift announced the new album whilst she was awarded her 13th Grammy.

The singer was also awarded her 4th Grammy for Album of the Year. Up until receiving this award, Taylor Swift had been tied with three Album of the Year awards with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Simon.

Celine Dion also made an appearance at the Grammys after cancelling all her shows and tours due to health reasons. She presented the award to Taylor Swift.

Jay-Z, when accepting his award of the night, The Global Impact Award, gave a speech in which he called out the award show for Beyoncé never receiving an Album of the Year Award. The star has around 32 Grammys with around 88 nominations, and yet has never received an Album of the Year Grammy. This led to many taking to social media to question whether this was aimed at Taylor Swift and whether this will reopen the Taylor versus Beyonce debate.
